Master of Arts Program
 
Individuals with a B.A. degree in English Language Education are normally eligible for admission to the M.A. program. Individuals who have an undergraduate degree in other fields may also apply provided that they have a valid nationally- and/or internationally-recognized teaching certificate/diploma, or at least one year of experience in English language education.
 

Doctor of Philosophy Program

The Ph.D. program is open only to master’s degree (with thesis) holders. Those whose bachelor’s or master’s degree is in the field of English Language Education or Applied Linguistics are eligible for admission to the PhD program. Those with a degree in other disciplines may also apply, provided that they have a valid nationally- and/or internationally-recognized teaching certificate/diploma or at least two years’ experience in English language education.

 
HOW TO APPLY TO GRADUATE PROGRAMS IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE EDUCATION
 
  • All applicants must first ensure that they qualify to apply to Graduate Programs at Boğaziçi University.
  • Applicants must meet the departmental requirements (see below) and the university's general admission requirements (see Application to Graduate Programs for the latest information). 
  • All application documents must be submitted to the Boğaziçi University Registrar's Office through the Electronic Application System. Check the application dates on the 2024 Academic Calendar 
  • If you fulfill all of the admission requirements of Boğaziçi University and the Department of Foreign Language Education and successfully complete all stages of online application, then you will be allowed to take the departmental exams for the Graduate Programs (see below for the Reading List and other details).
  • Applicants will be sent an e-mail notification if they are eligible to take the exam(s).
  • Only those who are successful in the exam(s) will be admitted to the programs in the Fall semester. Please click on the titles to access the recommended MA Reading List and PhD Reading List for the exam.
 

Applications for the M.A. and Ph.D programs will be received for the Fall 2024 term.

According to the Council of Higher Education’s (YÖK) Regulations on Graduate Education and Instruction, applicants to PhD programs must obtain a minimum score of 55 on the KPDS/UDS/YDS or an equivalent score on an exam recognized by the Interuniversity Council, and students of foreign citizenship must obtain a minimum score of 55 on the language section of the KPDS/UDS/YDS other than their mother tongue (languages stated in the Regulation) or an equivalent score on an exam recognized by the Interuniversity Council in addition to the English proficiency tests recognized by the University Senate. For equivalent test scores determined by the Council of Higher Education (YOK) see:
